Suvarnabhumi Airport to be opened on schedule

September 21st, 2006

The Administrative Reform Council (ARC) President General Sonthi Boonyaratkalin confirmed that Suvarnabhumi Airport will begin full domestic and international operation on September 28 as scheduled.

“The ARC will not change plans for the opening of the new airport,” Sonthi said Wednesday after leading a military coup d’etat to overthrow the Thaksin administration.

The ARC was set-up following the coup in order to facilitate the transition towards an interim government and eventually new elections.

Sonthi made his statement regarding the airport in front of representatives from Bangkok-based embassies, consulates and international organisations.
