Army joined to protect royals at Suvarnabhumi Airport
September 22nd, 2006The First Army will set up a joint administrative unit of the Royal Guards to provide security to Their Majesties the King and Queen and all members of the royal family using Suvarnabhumi airport after its full commercial opening next Thursday. The establishment of the new unit was assigned by the Royal Aide-de-Camp Department.
Army deputy spokesman Lt-Col Sirijan Ngatong said the First Army comprises Royal Guard forces, including the First Infantry Division Royal Guards and the Second Infantry Regiment Royal Guards, better known as the ”Queen’s Musketeers”. They would ensure the safety of the King, the Queen and the royal family.
Bangkok Airways first flight success
September 22nd, 2006Bangkok Airways successfully completed its first commercial flight from Suvarnabhumi Airport on Thursday.
Flight PG 600 left Suvarnabhumi Airport at 7.10 AM and arrived at Sukothai Airport in northern Thailand at 8.20 AM, as scheduled.
After testing, the airline is 90 percent ready to provide service at Suvarnabhumi Airport, according to Nijjapat.
Suvarnabhumi will begin full international and domestic services on September 28, as Bangkok International Airport (Don Muang) retires after 80 years.
Bangkok Airways is only operating selected flights at Suvarnabhumi Airport, keeping most of its operation at Don Muang until the change over on September 28. Thai Airways International and low cost airline Jetstar have made similar moves as part of the airport’s soft opening.
Thai Airways satisfied with Suvarnabhumi Airport
September 22nd, 2006Following extensive testing, Thai Airways International Plc. (THAI) is content with facilities at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
As part of a soft opening, THAI transferred a few of its domestic flights to Suvarnabhumi Airport on September 15, while keeping most of its operation based at Bangkok International Airport (Don Muang). The routes that made the switch included flights from the capital to Chiang Mai, Phitsanulok and Ubon Ratchathani.
THAI and other carriers will transfer all domestic and international flights to the new airport by September 28, as Don Muang retires as Bangkok’s primary international aviation hub.
