World’s largest plane landed smoothly at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport

The new A380 superjumbo of European aircraft manufacturer Airbus landed smoothly on Tuesday at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport for its first arrival in the kingdom, following a world test flight schedule, showing the new airport’s capacity to handle the giant plane.
The Airbus A380 is scheduled to fly back to Toulouse, France, on Thursday, Airbus director of product marketing, Richard Carcaillet said. The superjumbo, carrying a minimal 55 passengers and five crew, landed at 1.22 pm (0622 GMT).
The world’s largest plane, which can carry up to 555 passengers, stopped in several Asian countries, including Singapore and Hong Kong, in its 18-day global test that was wrapped up last week.
Transport Ministry says no return back to Don Muang
November 29th, 2006The Transport Ministry is determined to operate Suvarnabhumi as Bangkok’s only international airport and has dismissed a push by low-cost airlines to have Don Muang re-opened to them.
Key government agencies, including the Aviation Department, the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning and the National Economic and Social Development Board, held another round of talks yesterday to seek a common position on the future of Don Muang.
The talks were called after repeated requests from low-cost airlines that they be allowed to shift their operations back to Don Muang from Suvarnabhumi.
Airports of Thailand to reserve seats and toilets in Suvarnabhumi Airport for monks
November 29th, 2006The Airports of Thailand Plc is finding appropriate seats and toilets in the passenger building reserved for monks as requested by the Department of Religious Affairs.
Suvarnabhumi Airport Director-General Somchai Sawasdiphon said AOT had already reserved a special room in the passenger building for high-ranking monks. The company has instructed airport officials to reserve more seats for monks.
The director-general admitted that there are not enough seats in the passenger buildings despite additional 2,000 seats brought from Donmuang Airport. He affirmed that this problem will be resolved as quickly as possible.
