Travelers Assistance Center opens for New Year weekend holiday
December 17th, 2006Having high expectations that large numbers of foreign tourists and local travelers would be traveling by air during the New Year weekend holiday, the management of Suvarnabhumi Airport will offer special traveler’s assistance next week, Somchai Sawasdeepon, general manager of the airport, said Sunday.
The travelers center will be on the seventh floor of the passenger terminal building as airport officials believe that the airport will be more crowded with the greatest number passengers at any given time since it opened commercially September 28, Mr. Somchai said.
Parking fees at Suvarnabhumi airport starting 16 December 2006
December 15th, 2006Car parking fees will escalate at the airport, starting with a minimum parking charge of
- 25 baht for the first hour
- After that, fees will be 50 baht for two hours
- 80 baht for three hours
- 110 baht for four hours
- 145 baht for five hours
- 180 baht for six hours
- Maximum fee for 24-hour parking will be 250 baht.
For motorcycles,
- Parking for the first to sixth hour will be 10 baht per hour, with a maximum 24-hour charge of 70 baht.
There will be security officers stationed at all of the parking buildings to prevent theft.
IATA – Airlines on course to fly in to the black next year
December 14th, 2006Having lost US$41 billion since 2001, the world’s airline industry is poised to reduce its loss to $500 million this year and to report its first profit since 2000 with $2.5 billion next year. The latest projection by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for this year was much better than its previous forecast made in September when it came out with a $1.7-billion loss projection.
Barring the $6-billion cost restructuring at Delta and Northwest in the US under Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, 2006 would have been a profitable year for the industry, IATA director-general Giovanni Bisignani said on Tuesday.
