CTX baggage scanners at Suvarnabhumi fully functional this week

June 25th, 2007

Five malfunctioning CTX baggage scanners at Suvarnabhumi Airport will be up and running again this week after experiencing some technical glitches last week, according to the airport director.

There has been no report that passenger baggage was delayed, misplaced or left behind at the new Bangkok airport after the scanners broke down Wednesday night. Over 100 military personnel were called in to help carry baggage.

Suvarnabhumi airport director Serirat Prasutanond said Saturday that key spare parts of the machines will be delivered to Thailand next Tuesday, June 26, 2007. At least five scanners, now temporarily out of order, will be fixed to function normally by the end of next week.

Airport Rail Link from Makkasan to Suvarnabhumi is way behind schedule

June 15th, 2007

The multibillion-baht Airport Rail Link from Makkasan to Suvarnabhumi is way behind schedule and over budget.

Last week experts met to thrash out how it can be saved before banks pull their support.

State Railway of Thailand
(SRT) deputy governor Nakorn Chanthasorn said the situation was critical.

“Originally, we were supposed to pay for the link after it was completed. The previous Cabinet resolved that we would pay up 990 days after work commenced,” he said.

“This means the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) needs to find as much as 22.6 billion Baht within the next few months. We are asking for a Cabinet solution.”
