Thailand to be aircraft maintenance centre of Asia
Tuesday, September 26th, 2006The Civil Aviation Training Centre (CATC) will propose that an aircraft maintenance centre be established in order to help promote Thailand as a regional hub providing airlines with full service.
CATC intends to make their recommendations once an interim government is selected.
The biggest player in Asia’s 500 billion baht a year aircraft maintenance industry is Singapore which services a fifth of the market.
“Thailand has the potential to provide more maintenance services than Singapore, but we don’t have a proper centre. Moreover, many people working in Singapore’s aircraft maintenance industry were trained in Thailand,” said Boonritr Saovapruk, CATC governor.
Train connecting new international airport with central Bangkok to open next year
Tuesday, September 5th, 2006A rail system connecting central Bangkok to the new international airport is 40 percent complete and is scheduled for completion in November 2007.
The Airport Link to Suvarnabhumi Airport will include a direct express train that will take 15 minutes from the Makkasan train station, which connects to the city’s mass transit subway system, said a statement from Airports of Thailand.
Another train will make eight stops throughout the city, taking 30 minutes to travel the 28 kilometers (17 miles) to the airport and linking with both the subway and Skytrain systems in Bangkok.
