Suvarnabhumi Airport needs expansion
Sunday, September 24th, 2006Kasikorn Research Centre (KRC) recommended that agencies involved with Suvarnabhumi Airport consider expanding the hub to keep pace with a rapidly growing aviation industry.
According to International Air Transport Association (IATA), in the next five years, commercial passenger service will grow by 5.6 percent per year, while cargo business will grow by 6.3 percent per year.
“Suvarnabhumi Airport covers 8,000 acres, making it possible to host a maximum of four runways, 112 flights per hour, 100 million passengers per year and six million tonnes of cargo per year,” KRC analysts wrote in their report. It will be necessary to expand Suvarnabhumi. Agencies have to start working on it right now, otherwise we may not be able to serve future growth and may not be able to become the regional hub,” KRC analysts reported.
Land price rises near Suvarnabhumi
Thursday, September 7th, 2006Land around Suvarnabhumi remains hot, with prices surging beyond the average 4% increase in Greater Bangkok during 2005-06, according to the Agency for Real Estate Affairs.
Land prices around the airport rose 6% during the period due to improving facilities and the government’s planned transport links.
The agency anticipates land prices in Greater Bangkok would rise only 3.1% next year due to the unfavourable economic conditions this year.
The prices of land near Suvarnabhumi have risen by around 47% since 1998, compared to 29.7% for plots in Bangkok.
