Transport Minister to take ambassadors tour Suvarnabhumi Airport

Transport Minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisal on Tuesday revealed that he and Foreign Minister Kantathi Suphamongkhon would take a team of more than 100 foreign envoys to observe the readiness of Bangkok’s new Suvarnabhumi Airport on Friday (September 8, 2006) before it is officially opened for commercial services on September 28, 2006.
He said the observation tour by the ambassadors of many countries to see the operation of various systems at the new airport is organized to give an assurance that the airport is now ready for its commercial services. (News by TNA)
Moving to Suvarnabhumi
Thursday, August 31st, 2006The national carrier is finalizing its plans for moving to Bangkok’s new international airport, Suvarnabhumi, as the official opening day is drawing near. The plan involves transferring avionic equipment and staff of up to 300 companies in one lot from the present Don Muang International Airport to Suvarnabhumi International Airport, located 30 kilometers east of Bangkok. The equipment will need to be installed and ready to operate by 0600 hr on 28 September 2006.
In the case of Thai Airways, there will be a total of 2,929 articles of equipments and 27 aircraft to be transferred on the night of 27 September to officially kick start the operation at the new location.
Security system & staff set ready for Suvarnabhumi international airport

Thailand’s Immigration Bureau Police reiterated the readiness of both its staff and technical equipment in providing services at the new Suvarnabhumi international airport, with a total of 1,380 immigration officers ready to be deployed from the beginning of September, Pol. Lt-Gen. Suwat Thamrongsrisakul said Tuesday.
Regarding concerns about terrorists entering the kingdom, the commissioner said the security system at the new airport is the highest technology, with data tracking processing systems monitoring both ‘black’ lists and ‘watch’ lists upgraded to the latest capabilities.
Passengers appearing on either the black list or watch list can be detected within 20 seconds upon their passport check, he said.
