AOT helps communities affected by noise pollution

Airports of Thailand (AOT) yesterday (October 5, 2006) agreed to spend its emergency funds to help residents severely affected by noise pollution from Suvarnabhumi airport. Later this month AoT is to conclude its compensation plan that should include the expropriation of nearly 200 houses.

The board decided to release the funds to help the people in Samut Prakan’s Bang Phli district. Their homes are situated in Rom Klao area on the northwest and north of the airport. They include Romruedee, Suk Village, Saranvong and Suk Ville 4 estates.

Suvarnabhumi to build a low-cost passenger terminal costing 1.2 billion Baht

Airports of Thailand (AOT) will today seek approval from its board of directors to build a low-cost passenger terminal costing Bt1.2 billion at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Bangkok AirportAOT president Chotisak Asapaviriya said the planned facilities would have a total space of 40,000 square metres, with an annual capacity to serve 17 million passengers. It will be especially designed for budget airlines and travellers, with the emphasis on reducing operating and other costs.

“Cost-efficiency is the top priority, because it will not be as beautiful and cosy as the existing terminal. However, service at the new low-cost hub will be fast and convenient.”

Thai Airways requests passengers check in 3 hours in advance

Thai Airways International requests the assistance of passengers flying out of Suvarnabhumi Airport, to check in 3 hours in advance for international flights and 1 hours in advance for domestic flights, in order to decrease traffic jams routed to and from the airport.

Thai Airways InternationalApinan Sumanaseni, THAI’s President, said that following the official opening of Suvarnabhumi Airport on 28 September 2006, there have been several people coming out to the airport who are both passengers and observing public, both inside and outside the airport terminal area.
