Le Meridien announced to manage brand new Suvarnabhumi Golf Resort & Spa, Thailand

Le Meridien Suvarnabhumi Golf Resort & Spa will be one of the first international upscale properties to be located proximate to the new airport of Bangkok.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc’s global hotel brand Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts, continues to expand its presence in Asia Pacific with the signing of Le Meridien Suvarnabhumi Golf Resort & Spa, Thailand.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts and Summit Windmill Golf Club Co., Limited announced the agreement today to manage this brand new resort in Samut Prakan, just south east of Bangkok and approximately 3 miles from the new Suvarnabhumi International Airport of Bangkok, Thailand ( which opens in late September 2006 ).

Services at the new Suvarnabhumi Airport have greatly improved, according to Thai Airways International Flying Officer, Apinand Sum-na-sre-ra-nee.

Thai Airways InternationalIn addition, the coordination between Thai Airways and Thai Airport Limited has been running smoothly.

The Head Committee at Thai Airways reported that 98 percent of flights between 1:00am and 6:00pm were on time. The 2 percent of flights that were delayed, were not delayed for more than an hour. More importantly, there were no reports of delayed domestic flights.

Thai Airways also assured that baggage claims were running efficiently. While 90 percent of claims were running on time, travellers were not delayed for more than 30 minutes.




Bangkok and Chiang Mai named top 10 best cities in the world

The city of Bangkok has been placed third in the World’s Best Awards 2006, ranked as the world’s third favourite city for tourism–after Italy’s Florence and Rome, respectively.

It’s a repeat honour for Bangkok. The City of Angels copped the American award as Asia’s best every year for the four previous years.

Bangkok governor Apirak Kosayodhin received the “Asia’s Best City 2006” award from America’s Travel + Leisure magazine on Friday.

More than that, Thailand’s northern city of Chiang Mai was voted the world’s fifth favourite tourist city and second in Asia. The magazine conducted surveys of tourists and its readers through its website and questionnaires.
