Airports of Thailand to cancel Suvarnabhumi Airport hotel contract
Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007The management contract for the airport hotel at Suvarnabhumi will be cancelled because the contractor was unqualified to win it in the first place, an informed source said. The board of the Suvarnabhumi airport hotel, headed by Airports of Thailand chairman General Saprang Kalayanamitr, decided yesterday to void the contract of Universal Hospitality Joint Venture, which runs the Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport hotel.
Airports of Thailand board found that the bidding terms for the management rights of the hotel prohibited a joint venture from vying for the contract because a joint venture is not a juristic entity under the Civil Code and this could pose legal problems.
Customs free zone split up at Suvarnabhumi Airport will be reviewed today
Monday, May 21st, 2007The government will meet today to debate whether to split the customs-free zone at Suvarnabhumi Airport to help improve operations.
Sansern Wongcha-um, the deputy finance minister, said that drafting a new zoning plan with normal export and import operations separated from the customs-free zone was one possibility to be reviewed by the committee, which is chaired by Interim Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont.
The zone is intended to facilitate imports of raw materials and intermediate products to be processed locally before being re-exported as finished goods. Products entering the free zone are exempt from normal import duties.
Airports of Thailand seeking a new President
Wednesday, May 9th, 2007Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) is seeking a new chief executive by offering an attractive remuneration package including monthly pay close to one million baht.
The state-controlled airport operator is accepting applications until May 29 for the position of president.
The successful candidate will assume the hot seat temporarily held by Kulya Pakakrong, vice-president for planning and finance, who assumed the role after Chotisak Asapaviriya resigned in February, 2007. Mrs Kulya has made it known that she does not intend to seek the presidency and will return her old job when a replacement is found.
