Airport Special Campaign: Thai Culture & Lucky Passenger

Airports of Thailand will launch a four-month program of Thai culture and tradition at the 125-billion-baht Bangkok international airport in an effort to encourage passengers to part with more cash.

The seven-million-baht marketing scheme would make air travellers feel very impressed with Thai culture and tradition, said Narongchai Tanachangsaeng, the airport’s deputy general manager.

Special activities under the theme “Suvarnabhumi: The Beauty Given and the Impression Received” would help increase the state-run company’s revenue. The authority projects 45-46 million passengers will enter Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports in 2007.




King Power files 68 Billion Baht suit against Airports of Thailand

King Power International Group filed two lawsuits against Airports of Thailand (AOT), demanding it pay 68 billion baht in damages plus interest for terminating its duty-free shop contracts at Suvarnabhumi, Phuket and Hat Yai airports. The two lawsuits were filed with the Civil Court by lawyer Bundit Siripant on behalf of King Power Suvarnabhumi Co and King Power Duty Free Co yesterday.

King Power Suvarnabhumi and King Power Duty Free Co demanded 20.8 billion baht and 48 billion baht, respectively plus 7.5% annual interest from Airports of Thailand.

According to the lawsuits, the group, through both companies, had operated duty-free shops at Don Mueang, Phuket and Hat Yai airports.




Police to clean up unlicensed taxi and illegal tour guide at Suvarnabhumi Airport

Police have vowed to rid Suvarnabhumi airport of unlicensed black-plate taxis and illegal tour guides within 15 days.

Pol Maj-Gen Wut Liptapanlop, deputy chief of Police Region 1, said the new Bangkok airport has been plagued with the problem of black-plate taxis overcharging passengers. It was reported that there are more than 30 groups operating unlicensed black-plate taxis at the airport, each with 10-100 cabs.

If this is allowed to continue, their operations will cause the state to suffer 300 million baht in lost revenue per year, he said.
