Suvarnabhumi Airport – to become regional hub
Monday, October 30th, 2006Suvarnabhumi Airport, able to move six million tonnes of freight per year, which began full commercial operations September 28–is on its way to becoming Southeast Asia’s regional cargo hub.
Supachai Kaewsiri, director of the Information Technology Division of Thai Airport Ground Services (TAGS), said that his firm has invested Bt 700 million in establishing its Airport Cargo Community System (ACCS) connected with the cargo network of the newly opened airport in Bangkok.
During the past 27 days, Supachai said, TAGSs supervision of the IT network in Suvarnabhumi proved a smooth operation as planned. Right now both cargo and baggage transport are operated by Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and ACCS.
Private sector confident Suvarnabhumi’s cargo hub potential
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006Leading executives are certain that Suvarnabhumi Airport will become Asia’s regional cargo hub, and as a result promote trade in the region.
Vikrom Kromadit, CEO of industrial estate developer Amata Corporation Plc, said the new airport will be a distribution gateway to Thailand and the rest of Asia, with the ability to support commerce brought about by Free Trade Agreements (FTA) between Thailand and major partners, like China and Australia.
Suvarnabhumi Airport’s ability to handle greater cargo capacity, he said, is a crucial factor in realising Thailand’s aspiration in becoming the region’s cargo hub.
