Thai Airways, American Express contract with UN agencies

Thai Airways on Thursday  inked an accord with major UN agencies providing for special fares and considerations for international agencies, while American Express will serve as the sole travel agent dealing with the UN in Thailand.

A Memorandum of  Understanding on a THAI Corporate Partnership Programme was signed Friday by United Nations agencies in Thailand, Thai Airways International Pcl, and American Express (Thai) Co., Ltd Thursday at the Headquarters of Thai Airways International in Bangkok.

The ceremony was witnessed by Kim Hak-Su, UN Under Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Flying Officer Apinan Sumanaseni, President of Thai Airways; and American Express.

AOT seeks more foreign-denominated income

Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) is studying a plan to seek more foreign-denominated income in a bid to match the diversification of its long-term yen-currency debts into several major foreign currencies.

The company is also planning to develop an entertainment complex on 160 hectares near Suvarnabhumi Airport in an effort to boost its non-aeronautical revenue, as air-travel-related income is declining.

AOT president Chotisak Asapaviriya said the company was likely to collect more foreign-currency income as foreign air travel was expected to grow more rapidly than local air travel.

Customs inspections speedy service at Suvarnabhumi Airport

Customs Department has adjusted procedures at Suvarnabhumi Airport to ensure faster service.

Paisal Chuenjit, director of the Passenger Processing Division at Suvarnabhumi Airport’s Customs Bureau, said a total of 300 customs officials will service the new airport when it opens later this month, up from 210 at Bangkok International Airport (Don Muang).

Officials will be divided into four shifts. There will be 20 counters for travelers to declare goods, each equipped with an X-ray machine.

Paisal revealed that a new data checking system will be implemented. Passenger and flight information will be forwarded to the bureau before an aircraft arrives. Officials hope this system quickens the declaration of goods at customs and immigration procedures.
