Airports of Thailand to make an initial 736 Million Baht for noise compensation
Monday, April 2nd, 2007The Airports of Thailand (AOT) board has agreed to help with compensation costs for householders exposed to harmful levels of aircraft noise from Suvarnabhumi airport, by making an initial payment of 736 million baht.
The decision was reached at a recent meeting of the AOT board which agreed to settle the bill, as initially recommended by the National Environment Board (NEB). However, it will ask the government to cover the larger part of compensation worth 121.5 billion baht, said board member and spokesman Chermsak Pinthong.
King Power denies its contracts abused law

King Power International Group denies its contracts to operate duty-free shops and commercial areas at Suvarnabhumi airport bypassed a law designed to specifically govern public-private joint investments. The firm would pursue justice from the government for cancelling its contracts, said deputy chairman Chulchit Bunyaketu. However, it had no plans to file for emergency protection from the Administrative Court.
Vichai Raksriaksorn, King Power chief executive officer, said he will explain to the media tomorrow how the contracts were awarded to the company.
Airports of Thailand to study Don Muang as a 2nd Bangkok international airport
Friday, March 23rd, 2007Airports of Thailand (AOT) has been assigned to study the feasibility of turning Don Muang Airport into a second international airport for Bangkok, though the first attempt was foiled after strong protests from international airlines.
According to Kulya Pakakrong, acting president of AOT, which is preparing Don Muang Airport ahead of its reopening this Sunday, the Transport Ministry has ordered the company to carry out the study. The ministry wants the company to operate two international airports in Bangkok.
